At Republic of Drivers, we believe driver education should be taken seriously — because the habits you build while learning stay with you for life. Our school was founded on a simple idea: everyone deserves access to high-quality driver training that is both effective and affordable.

Republic of Drivers was created by founder and lead instructor Paul Raphel after years of experience teaching at one of Canada's largest driving school franchises. Since starting as an instructor in 2020, Paul has successfully trained over 800 students, helping them not only pass their tests but become safe, confident drivers. That experience shaped the core philosophy of our school: quality driver education matters more than rushing students through lessons.

We focus on building strong driving habits from the beginning, using practical instruction, real-world scenarios, and proven defensive driving techniques. Our goal isn't just to prepare you for the road test — it's to prepare you for a lifetime of safe driving.

At Republic of Drivers, we combine patience, professionalism, and structured learning to create a supportive environment where every student can succeed. Because when training is done right, confidence follows naturally.

From Our Founder & Instructor

Hi, I'm Paul Raphel, founder and lead instructor at Republic of Drivers.

I started this school with one clear mission: to make high-quality driver education accessible and affordable for everyone. Before founding Republic of Drivers, I worked as a driving instructor with one of Canada's largest driving school franchises starting in 2020, where I successfully trained over 800 students. That experience showed me something important — the quality of driver education truly matters.

Learning to drive isn't just about passing a test. It's about building habits that stay with you for life. The way you learn today shapes how you react on the road tomorrow. That's why at Republic of Drivers, we focus on developing strong, safe driving habits from day one, using effective defensive driving techniques and real-world training.

I believe every student deserves patient instruction, proper guidance, and the confidence that comes from being truly prepared — not rushed through the process. That belief is the foundation of everything we do here.

Meet Instructor Stephen Newby

Republic of Drivers is pleased to welcome Instructor Stephen Newby to our team. An experienced in-car and classroom instructor, Stephen joins us after extensive work with schools in New Brunswick and British Columbia — teaching classes and coaching new drivers for over 40 years. Locally, he’s already known as a highly-rated in-car tutor with an extensive review history.

Stephen has driven in eight countries and has held a Class 1 licence since he was 21 — the kind of experience only decades on the road can build. Whether it’s heavy vehicles, defensive driving, or first-time learners, he’s seen (and taught) it all.

Originally from the UK, he also brings a bit of British humour (and the accent to match) alongside his own unique teaching style.

Our Approach

We're not the largest or oldest driving school in the Moncton area — we're an expanding driving school celebrating our constant development and improvements as we grow from a small community school into a regional presence.

No other school can match our passion and enthusiasm to give our students the tools to not only prepare for their test, but to be equipped with the knowledge to stay safe on our roads. Our proactive approach and in-depth classroom and in-car instruction is delivered with energy and care.
